This free stand alone program from Microsoft for Windows XP offers a convenient way to create impressive multi-media slide shows with digital images. The step-by-step and wizard-driven process for creating slide-shows is straightforward and extremely easy to use. You simply import the photos or other images that you wish to use, then add text, special effects, audio narration, transitions, and music as appropriate.
There are two features of
Photo Story 3 that stand out. First, there is the way the program pans each
image to bring it to life and add dramatic effect. Then there is the music. You
can import sound clips and record narration to accompany your show. Or, you can
use Photo Story 3 to “create” your own musical sound track from a wide range of
instrumentation, styles and moods.
Create and Save a Story:
Create edit and save your photo
story. The smart touch-up features make it easy to instantly remove red eye,
and correct the lighting in your pictures. There are also several different
options for saving a story and its associated project so that you can edit the
story later, or share it immediately.
Import pictures:
If you have a
collection of pictures on a camera or a website, you can import these pictures
into your photo stories.
Edit Enhance Pictures:
You can edit and enhance your
pictures in several ways by selecting any of the following options from the
shortcuts on the Import and arrange your pictures page, or the Edit dialog box.
Correct color levels:
Correct red
eye, Correct contrast, Rotate the picture clockwise or counterclockwise,
Manually crop the picture, Remove black borders and automatically crop the
picture.
Effect:
You can also add effects, such as
Black and White, which change the appearance of the picture. Note that none of the changes you
make will affect the original picture that is stored on your computer, a
network folder, or the Internet.
Add Title to Each Picture:
You can also add titles to each
picture in your story or to selected pictures only. On the Add a title to your
pictures page, use the buttons over the title box to adjust the placement of
your title and the font.
Add Songs to Every Picture:
You can add songs to every picture in
your story, and Photo Story 3 will play each song for as long as the pictures
are displayed in your story. Only one piece of music can play for a selected
picture or anchor image. You can add multiple songs from your computer, the My
Music folder, or from the prerecorded music in Photo Story 3 to your story.
The
file format for Photo Story 3 is .wp3, and file conversion is not particulary
easy. Since Photo Story 3 creates a “project” file that can be saved separately
from the final rendered slide show, Open the project file in
Windows Movie Maker and create a regular .wmv movie that could be uploaded to
YouTube. It worked even better, however, to convert the .wmv file to an MPEG
movie & upload it to Google Video. PS3 uses Windows Media Player to
play its .wp3 files.
